ABOUT ILU-BURUNDI
International Leadership University (ILU) – Burundi is a private Christian and non-denominational training institution, a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International. It exists to educate men and women to provide leadership in Africa by spearheading spiritual, social and cultural transformation in Africa and beyond. The purpose is to provide a transformative education that integrates faith and learning to prepare students to excel professionally and live out their faith in all spheres of life. We are currently expanding our faculty to serve students in our Schools of Business Administration, Theology, Leadership and Governance, and Information and Communication Technology.
POSITION I: RESEARCH DIRECTOR
We are looking for a Director of Research who will provide strategic leadership to build ILU-Burundi’s research culture and output. The role is to be responsible for promoting quality research, securing grants, building partnerships, and ensuring research contributes to actual community transformation in Burundi and beyond. The Director will report to the Deputy Vice Chancellor.
Key responsibilities:
- Facilitating courses: Develop course materials in your area of specialization, teach, design exams, invigilate and mark them.
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the University Research Agenda and Policy in line with ILU’s mission.
- Research Promotion: Encourage and support faculty and students to conduct ethical, high-quality research and publications.
- Grants & Funding: Identify funding opportunities, write proposals, and manage donor-funded research projects.
- Partnerships: Build strong network within the academic and research communities such as other universities, NGOs, UN agencies, and government institutions in Burundi and abroad.
- Capacity Building: Organize research methods trainings, workshops, and mentorship for staff and students.
- Quality & Ethics: Oversee the University Research Ethics Committee and ensure compliance with national and international standards.
- Dissemination: Establish and manage the University Journal, conferences, and ensure research findings are not only published in international journals but also shared with policy makers and communities.
Tasks:
Specific tasks include:
- Develop and oversee the research strategy for the organization
- Lead and manage a team of researchers and analysts
- Collaborate with other departments to identify research needs and opportunities
- Ensure that all research activities adhere to ethical guidelines and high standards of quality
- Analyze and interpret research data to inform decision-making processes
- Prepare and present research findings to stakeholders
- Secure funding and resources for research projects
- Stay updated with the latest trends and developments in the field
- Foster a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation within the team
- Manage the budget for the research department
- Establish partnerships with external research organizations and academic institutions
- Review and approve research proposals and publications
- Mentor and develop junior researchers
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards

Required qualifications & experience:
- Education: PhD in a relevant field from an accredited university.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in research leadership, proven track of successful project management, and grant writing in a University, NGO, or Research Institution,
- Publications: Proven record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Skills: Strong knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, experience with advanced research methodologies and data analysis tools like SPSS/STATA/NVivo, etc. and academic writing.
- Funding: Demonstrated success in winning research grants from donors and experience with budgeting and financial management in a research context are an added advantage.
- Teamwork: Ability to think strategically and align research with organizational goals, and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Languages: Fluency in English. French, Kirundi and Kiswahili are an added advantage, excellent communication and presentation skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
POSITION II: FULL-TIME LECTURERS
We are looking for full-time lecturers who will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, mentoring students, conducting research, and contributing to the academic, professional and spiritual life of ILU-BURUNDI. Specifically, we need lecturers whose discipline is one of the following: English Language Teaching, Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance and Banking, Human resource Management, IT and Theology. The successful candidates will model Christian values and be committed to academic excellence and student development.
Duties and responsibilities
Teaching & Learning:
- Develop course outlines, teaching materials, and assessments in line with ILU-Burundi curriculum standards
- Facilitate a learning process, tutorials, and practical sessions in assigned courses;
- Use innovative and student-centered teaching methods including blended learning;
- Design, invigilate and mark all the students assessment activities.
Student Mentorship:
- Advise and mentor students academically, professionally, and spiritually;
- Supervise student research projects, internships, and practicums;
- Participate in student assessment and provide timely feedback.
Research & Academic Contribution
- Engage in research, publications, and conference presentations;
- Contribute to curriculum development and program review;
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and university events.
Community & Institutional Service
- Uphold and promote the mission, vision, and core values of ILU-Burundi;
- Engage with the community and industry to strengthen university partnerships;
- Participate in accreditation, quality assurance, and outreach activities.
Qualifications & requirements
Academic and professional Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in relevant field from a recognized university;
- PhD preferred;
- Teaching experience in a university/college setting is an added advantage;
- Sound proficiency in English;
- Strong ICT skills: MS Office.

POSITION III: PART-TIME LECTURERS
We are seeking dynamic and passionate part-time facilitators in the following fields:
English, Kiswahili, Management, Finance and Banking, Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Theology, Leadership and Governance. As a facilitator of courses at International Leadership University Burundi, you will have the opportunity to mentor students, provide high quality education, and help shape the leaders of tomorrow, while fostering a Christ-centered academic environment.
Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in your area of expertise;
- Develop course syllabi, assignments, and assessments that align with academic standards and Christian principles;
- Foster an interactive and engaging classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and critical thinking;
- Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students;
- Integrate Christian values and ethics into course content and teaching methodologies;
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and other university events;
- Assist students in their spiritual, academic, professional and personal growth, etc.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in English,
- A strong commitment to the vision of developing leaders of integrity,
- Relevant academic qualifications in your field of expertise,
- Holding at least a Master’s Degree,
- Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required,
- A deep personal faith and alignment with the Christian mission of the university,
- A passion for educating and mentoring students in a Christian context,
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
