The General Practitioner Physician will consult and develop treatment plans for both inpatient and outpatients. In addition to clinical care, the GP is expected to participate in patient safety initiatives, continuous quality improvement processes, and staff training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duties and Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Clinical Care (60%)<\/strong>
\u2022 Provide care to patients as part of a multidisciplinary team
\u2022 Review patients\u2019 medical history, examine patients, and make diagnoses to determine the need for treatment.
\u2022 Provide an explanation of medical procedures and care plans to patients and their families
\u2022 Review test results and identify and address any abnormalities
\u2022 Follow established MOH and or VHW specific protocols and guidelines
\u2022 Coordinate follow-up visits with patients and monitoring their health condition
\u2022 Provide on call \/night shift coverage as assigned
\u2022 Complete charting patient care in the electronic medical record in a timely manner<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Quality of Care and Patient Safety (25%)<\/strong>
\u2022 Actively participate in the development and implementation of initiatives to improve patient care as a general practitioner.
\u2022 Assure accurate data input in all patient charts within the electronic medical record
\u2022 Collaborate with monitoring and evaluation, nutrition, nursing and information technology teams to identify problems and find solutions using best practices
\u2022 Involves community engagement services (nutrition, CHWs, outreach) to ensure and reinforce our system of continuity of care<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Professional Development\/Education and Training (15%)<\/strong>
\u2022 Actively participate in teaching in the clinic through the development of lectures, teaching of procedural skills, and teaching at the bedside to improve the knowledge and care of clinical staff
\u2022 Submit reports detailing monthly, quarterly, and annual activities and achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Required Condition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.1. Education \/ Qualifications:
<\/strong>
\u2022 Diploma of general practitioner recognized by the Government of Burundi
\u2022 Be of Burundian nationality
\u2022 1-3 years\u2019 experience post \u201cstage professional\u201d
\u2022 Additional training\/experience in a specialty area such as Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Neonatal care, Emergency Care, and Surgery are an asset<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.2. Skills \/ knowledge:
<\/strong>
\u2022 Empathy, compassion, dedication, hard work, exceptional organization, openness to challenge, good problem solver
\u2022 Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
\u2022 Excellent written and verbal communication skills
\u2022 Fluent in Kirundi, French; English is an asset
\u2022 Commitment to social justice and the mission of Village Health Works
\u2022 Interest in serving vulnerable populations in rural areas
\u2022 A spirit of initiative and being proactive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
