With an 85,000 sq. ft. teaching\r\nhospital, a comprehensive health system, and the Kigutu International Academy, VHW addresses the root\r\ncauses of poverty and promotes long term, sustainable change.\r\n\r\n<strong>VHW Core Values<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 <strong>Dignity:<\/strong> Every member of VHW\u2019s team must value the inherent dignity in each individual.\r\n\u2022 <strong>Excellence:<\/strong> We aspire to excellence in all we do and hold ourselves to the highest standards.\r\n\u2022 <strong>Compassion and Justice:<\/strong> These are the heart of our mission and guide all of our actions.\r\n\u2022 <strong>Boldness and Perseverance:<\/strong> We are courageous in addressing challenges and persistent in pursuing\r\nour goals.\r\n\u2022<strong> Accountability: <\/strong>We are accountable to each other, our community, and those we serve.\r\n\r\n<strong>Position Overview<\/strong>\r\nThe Staff Physician in Pediatrics has responsibilities that span clinical, educational and care delivery domains.\r\nThe ideal candidate is an outstanding clinician who is committed to delivering evidence based, resource\r\nappropriate care to our pediatric patients while taking the opportunity to share knowledge, skills and\r\ntechniques with those around her\/him and promoting a clinical culture of service excellence, teamwork and\r\npatient safety.\r\n\r\n<strong>Duties and Responsibilities\r\n<\/strong>\r\n<strong>Clinical Care 40%<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 Apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the outpatient and\r\ninpatient environments\r\n\u2022 Ensures that clinical plans are effectively and clearly communicated to the care team and patient\r\n\u2022 Ensures daily clinical documentation of care for all patients under department care and review\r\nfor quality\r\n\u2022 Ensures the documentation of patient consent when needed\r\n<strong>Specialty Care - Pediatrics 40%<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 Ensure integrated newborn and pediatric care through emergency, outpatient, and inpatient\r\ndepartment services\r\n\u2022 Oversee all admissions to the newborn care unit, special baby unit\r\n\u2022 Treat cases of malnutrition in line with MOH and WHO protocols and universal precautions\r\n\u2022 Ensure that all pediatric patients on the inpatient service are evaluated and treated promptly\r\n\u2022 Attend pediatric patients in the outpatient department including acute care, well child checks, and\r\nspecialty care i.e., malnutrition, mental health, epilepsy, Type 1 diabetes, developmental challenges\r\n<strong>Clinical Quality and Patient Safety 10%<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 Support the integration of clinical evidence-based practices and \u201cbest practices\u201d\r\n\u2022 Attend and participate in regular morbidity and mortality review for medical services\r\n\u2022 Ensure quality of care by giving ongoing training to the multidisciplinary medical\/paramedical team\r\nand providing technical advice\r\n\u2022 Propose modifications to current pediatric care management, implementing them once\r\napproved by the Head of Department\r\n\u2022 Keep patients and families informed of the treatment to be followed, checking that they have\r\nunderstood\r\n\u2022 Ensure that professional autonomy and confidentiality are respected, and demonstrate a good attitude\r\nand bedside manner towards patients and their caregivers\r\n<strong>Administration 5%<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 In close collaboration with the Head of Department, supervises the day to day clinical\/ward\r\nactivities and workflow\r\n\u2022 Manages and supervises generalist physicians\r\n\u2022 Together with Head of Department periodically reviews the Clinical Standard Operating\r\nProcedures, Manuals, Protocols, and Processes\r\n\u2022 Supervises the safe and efficient delivery of care in all patient areas\r\n\u2022 Participates in recruitment and interviewing of medical staff, as necessary\r\n<strong>Professional Development\/ Education and Training 5%<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 Provide ongoing bedside educational experiences for the core clinical team.\r\n\u2022 Provide appropriate skills training to staff for surgical and non-surgical procedures.\r\n\u2022 Engage with medical education for rotating students and trainees.\r\n<strong>Education and Qualification<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 License to practice medicine as a pediatrician in the country of origin\/study\r\n\u2022 Specialization training in Pediatrics with a minimum of 2 years professional experience\r\n\u2022 Recent clinical experience (at least six months within the last 24 months)\r\n\u2022 Demonstrated experience in clinical training of staff\r\n\u2022 Experience in resource poor settings\r\n\u2022 Critical Care and Neonatology experience preferred\r\n\u2022 Fluency in French and Kirundi is required;
