    Position Overview
    The Assistant to the Program Coordinator and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Officer supports the
    implementation of activities under the Twiyugurure Program by assisting the Program Coordinator in youth
    mentoring, community engagement, and gender-based violence prevention initiatives. The position works
    closely with facilitators, community stakeholders, and local authorities to monitor program activities, support
    vulnerable households, and promote social cohesion and life skills development among youth.
  1. Key Responsibilities
    1.1. Program Implementation and Supervision
  • Support the Program Coordinator in planning, implementing, and monitoring Twiyugurure program
    activities.
  • Monitor and supervise Twiyugurure teaching sessions in collaboration with facilitators and the
    program coordinator.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of program activities and adherence to program objectives.
    1.2. Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders and local authorities to identify households affected by
    domestic and gender-based violence.
  • Propose appropriate interventions and strategies to address gender-based violence within the
    community.
  • Organize awareness campaigns and community sensitization activities on the prevention of genderbased violence.
  • Coordinate activities related to the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and
    International Women’s Day (March 8).
    1.3. Training and Capacity Building
  • Develop and facilitate training modules on gender-based violence for community stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of capacity-building initiatives targeting youth and community members.
  • Strengthen community knowledge and practices related to gender equality and violence prevention.
    1.4. Psychosocial Support and Community Engagement
  • Provide support and guidance to households experiencing violence or family conflict.
  • Report cases requiring psychosocial intervention to the Twiyugurure Program Coordinator for
    appropriate referral and follow-up.
  • Promote social cohesion within the community through interactive activities and community-based
    initiatives.
    1.5. Youth Mentorship and Development
  • Mentor program graduates and support them in initiating and managing income-generating activities.
  • Assist young graduates in strengthening life skills, including:
    o Menstrual hygiene management
    o Positive masculinity
    o Personal hygiene
    o Prevention of harmful relationships
    o Prevention of antisocial and deviant behaviors.
    1.6. Coordination and Collaboration
  • Facilitate collaboration between the Twiyugurure Program and other Village Health Works programs.
  • Strengthen relationships between the program and the community.
    1.7. Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare activity reports and submit them within the required timeframes.
  • Maintain proper documentation of program activities and community interventions.
    1.8. Other Duties
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Program Coordinator or the Community Engagement
    Department in line with program objectives.
  1. Qualifications and Experience
    2.1. Education
  • A Bachelor’s degree (BAC+3 or BAC+4) in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Community
    Development, or a related social science field.
  • A secondary school diploma (A2) in a social field such as ECOSO, ENEFA, or equivalent is
    considered an asset.
    2.2. Professional Experience
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience in psychosocial support services or communitybased programs.
  • Experience in gender-based violence prevention and response programs are highly desirable.
  • Experience working in hospital or clinical environments is an advantage.
  • Experience in project implementation and community engagement activities is an asset.
    2.3. Gender-Sensitive Experience (Key Requirement)
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with women and girls, particularly in gender-based
    violence (GBV) prevention and response programs.
  • Proven ability to create a safe, confidential, and trusting environment for female beneficiaries to
    share sensitive issues.
  • Experience facilitating discussions on sensitive topics such as:
    o Domestic violence
    o Sexual and reproductive health
    o Menstrual hygiene management
    o Harmful relationships
    2.4. Psychosocial Support & Counseling Skills
  • Strong experience in providing psychosocial support and basic counseling, especially to female
    survivors of violence.
  • Ability to actively listen, empathize, and provide appropriate guidance in culturally sensitive
    contexts.
  • Familiarity with referral pathways for GBV survivors (health, legal, and protection services).
    2.5. Communication & Facilitation Skills with Women and Girls
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with women, adolescent girls,
    and vulnerable groups.
  • Experience leading women-focused group discussions, awareness sessions, and community
    dialogues.
  • Ability to communicate on intimate and sensitive issues with respect, discretion, and cultural
    awareness.
    2.6. Community Engagement & Trust Building
  • Proven ability to build trust with female community members and vulnerable households.
  • Experience working closely with women’s groups, mothers, and female youth in community
    settings.
  • Strong cultural awareness and ability to navigate gender norms and barriers.
    2.7. Safeguarding & Ethical Practice
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality, survivor-centered approaches, and ethical handling of
    sensitive GBV cases.
  • Commitment to respect, dignity, and non-judgmental support, especially when working with
    women and girls.
    2.8. Preferred Profile (Carefully Worded)
  • Experience working in roles that require regular interaction with female beneficiaries is highly
    preferred.
