Key Responsibilities:
1. Comprehensive Diagnostic Imaging (OPD & IPD) (60%)
● Perform and interpret advanced diagnostic imaging, including ultrasound, X-rays, and any other imaging modalities within your professional competence.
● Provide diagnostic services for both outpatient and inpatient populations, ensuring high-quality care for routine cases and critically ill patients.
● Ensure that all findings are documented in clear, timely reports to guide immediate clinical decision-making.
● Adapt imaging techniques to the specific needs of rural patients, maintaining VHW’s standard of excellence and dignity in every exam.
2. Clinical Consultation & Specialized Support (25%)
• Act as a technical expert to General Practitioners (GPs) and Specialists, assisting them in performing and interpreting complex ultrasound scans.
• Provide real-time bedside consultation in the IPD for surgical, maternal, and emergency cases where imaging is critical to the diagnosis.
• Lead multidisciplinary case reviews, offering radiological insights to help clinical teams solve difficult diagnostic puzzles.
3. Quality, Safety & Training (15%)
● Ensure all imaging procedures—whether performed by yourself or other staff—adhere to international safety and radiation protection standards.
● Provide ongoing mentorship and « on-the-job » training for clinical staff to improve the facility’s overall diagnostic capacity.
● Advise on the technical requirements for any new imaging equipment or software being integrated into the Kigutu Hospital.
Required Qualifications & Skills
1. Academic & Professional Qualifications
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent, with a recognized specialization in Radiology.
• Valid license to practice as a Radiologist issued by the Burundi Ministry of Health.
• Additional certifications or training in advanced imaging modalities (CT, MRI, Doppler Ultrasound) are highly desirable.
2. Clinical Expertise & Diagnostic Competence
• Demonstrated expertise in performing and interpreting a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures, including ultrasound, X-ray, CT scan, and MRI.
• Strong analytical capacity to accurately interpret imaging results and produce clear, structured, and clinically relevant reports.
• Proven ability to correlate radiological findings with clinical data to support precise diagnosis and treatment decisions.
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.
4. Communication & Clinical Collaboration
• Excellent ability to clearly explain radiological findings to clinicians, ensuring proper understanding for patient management.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (GPs, surgeons, obstetricians, etc.).
• Capacity to provide real-time clinical guidance and consultation, particularly in emergency and complex cases.
5. Leadership & Department Management
• Proven experience in leading or coordinating a radiology unit or department.
• Strong organizational and managerial skills, including supervision of staff, workflow optimization, and resource management.
• Ability to mentor, train, and build capacity among junior staff and other healthcare professionals.
• Demonstrated accountability in maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and service delivery.
6. Data Management & Technical Proficiency
• Advanced knowledge and practical experience in radiology information systems (RIS), PACS, and digital imaging technologies.
• Ability to effectively manage, analyze, and safeguard radiological data in compliance with medical and ethical standards.
• Strong understanding of imaging protocols, equipment functionality, and quality assurance processes.
• Capability to contribute to data-driven decision-making and reporting within the department.
7. Quality, Safety & Professional Standards
• In-depth knowledge of radiation safety standards and international best practices.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with advancements in radiology.
• Strong adherence to medical ethics, patient confidentiality, and institutional protocols.
8. Language & Personal Attributes
• Fluency in Kirundi and French; working proficiency in English is an asset.
• Strong sense of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
• Commitment to health equity, patient-centered care, and community service.
